Where does your true potential lie?
Where Does Your True Potential Lie?
If you want to answer this question, you first need to know exactly where you stand. Most golfers want to improve, yet they have no real idea of their actual level. And here’s the truth—if you don’t know your real level, you’re setting yourself up for frustration, failure, and wasted effort.
Many rely on their handicap as a measure, but let’s be clear—that number can lie. Scores get distorted by lucky rounds, easy courses, or just one good day. If you’re serious about getting better, you need to strip away the illusions and face reality.
Step 1: Get Real About Your Game
Ask yourself: What is my actual level right now? Most players fall into one of three categories:
The Overconfident – They think they’re much better than they really are. These players get frustrated and angry when their results don’t match their expectations.
The Doubters – They underestimate their abilities and hold themselves back. Fear and lack of belief stop them from reaching their full potential.
The Realists – The rarest group. They know exactly where they stand. They don’t lie to themselves. They focus on what actually needs to improve, and that’s why they get better.
Which one are you?
Step 2: Stop Guessing, Start Measuring
Before you even think about training, you need cold, hard data on your game. Without it, you’re making decisions blind. You might think your short game is great when in reality, it’s killing your scores. You might believe your drives are solid when, in fact, you miss fairways way too often.
Look at the world’s top companies—Google, Amazon, Apple. They dominate because they track and use data to make the right decisions. Your game is no different. If you don’t start measuring your real performance, your mind will lie to you, and your emotions will sabotage your progress. Period.
